Open the Recorder by launching it on your device or log in and launch it from the Screencast-o-matic website. The Recorder launches with a black and white frame around the recording area and a Control Bar. Let’s start with quick tour of the Control Bar. The gear icon opens displays the tools.Tools are available before recording begins only. The pencil icon is the zoom and annotate tool.Select Cancel to close the Screencast-o-Matic at any time.

Within Tools, the Recording option buttons indicate screen, webcam, or both. The views can be changed during the recording session by clicking the icons.

Max time is the next setting. Screencast-o-matic warns users that the tool will record until there isn’t any more hard disc space, so you may want to set a maximum.

Size is the next setting. It’s recommended to record at 720p. Select the arrow to change the size. The frame on your screen might change size. To reposition the frame, put the cursor on the move tool to center it over the featured material. The move tool is the arrows icon at the center of the frame.

The green bar next to the Narration setting has probably been flickering as you use your keyboard or speak. Use the arrow on the Narration setting to select a microphone. Click on the microphone you want to use. A test playback tool is available below the volume control so you can ensure that your recording will have narration at the right volume.

Computer audio can also be recorded, but it is not by default. Select the arrow and then yes if you want to record audio occurring on the screen.

The Preferences button allows you to use or create hotkeys rather than using your cursor to control the recording, contains zoom, webcam preview, and control bar settings.

We’re moving back to the Control Bar now and starting the recording. It counts down.

Here’s how the Control bar changes when the recording begins. The Tool button is now hidden and the timer has started. This is the features page for Screencast-o-matic.

Now I’ll select the pause button on the control bar. The trash can on the control bar deletes recordings.

To the right of the timer are seek back and seek forward arrows. They can be used to navigate the recording. Screencast-o-Matic has additional editing tools to explore and use for more complex videos.

Once you have finished the video recording, select Done on the Control Bar. Options for what to do with the recording opens.

The recording is a Mp4. Select upload to Google Drive. The first time Google Drive is selected, a connection must be made to your account. There are 4 steps to accomplish this.

Description of steps shown: Step 1 asks to launch the web browser. Step 2 prompts you to sign into the Google account you wish to use, Step 3 is to read and allow the terms of the connection and step 4 confirms the connection.

Once the setup is complete, the upload to Google Drive selection will take you to the Publish options. There are a variety of options and most can be changed later within Drive. Captions can be added in Screencast-o-matic or in other tools. The Mp4 recording file can be assigned to any linked Google accounts. The file can be renamed. Open Folder and a Drive folder can be picked from within a folder tree. Sharing options can be selected. The Quality option allows you to enhance the upload to high quality.

Select the Publish button. The resulting window has a status bar for upload progress. There is a stop publish button during the process. Upon completion it shows buttons for sharing the upload link to email or social media, opening the upload, and copying the link to the upload. Select OK after using other buttons to close the Publish window.

Now you can find your video in Drive and share it as you wish.

Thanks!
